Example of how taxes are assessed and levied:

Each Adams County resident, eighteen years of age or older, are listed on the per capita tax rolls and liable for per capita taxes levied by the taxing bodies. There are approximately 70,600 taxpayers listed on the per capita rolls. The County levies a $5.00 per capita tax, 31 out of the 34 townships and boroughs levy the tax, ranging from $2.00 to $10.00 and 4 of the 6 school districts in the County levy a $10.00 per capita tax.

The County and Township tax year is January 1 through December 31. These tax bills are mailed March 1st and payable to your local Tax Collector at a 2% discount through April 30, par through June 30 and 10% penalty after June 30. The School tax year is July 1 through June 30. These tax bills are mailed July 1, payable to your local Tax Collector at 2% discount through August 31, Par through October 31 and 10% penalty after October 31.
